In 1976 the Deputy of Agriculture Daniel Leo established the Government Experimental Station 'Santa Rosa'. Later it became the Department of Agriculture, Husbandry and Fisheries in order to make a more efficient use of finances and natural resources. The main objectives were to provide a center for experimental work and to diversify Aruban economy by encouraging and developing agriculture, with particular reference to horticulture, husbandry and fisheries. In the course of time the experimental station on the former property 'Santa Rosa' became a center with both local and national responsibilities.
